Nursing for women and children
Natick VNA offers a full range of services to women and children, including high-risk pregnancy management and pediatric home care programs. Our goal is to provide skilled care and appropriate guidance for parents and their children, offering families the tools and resources they need to help maintain optimum health.
Care for mothers
Nurses provide fetal monitoring and pregnancy care for women with:
-
Gestational diabetes;
-
Hyperemesis;
-
Hypertension; and
-
Pre-term labor.
We provide a one-time home nursing visit to new mothers who have experienced short-term hospital stays for delivery of their babies, to reassure parents, answer questions, and teach newborn care. This visit includes a physical exam of both mother and baby, including weight checks, evaluation of infant jaundice, and assessment of the newborn’s overall functional status.
Lactation support
Natick VNA nurses have access to extensive lactation education and support resources for nursing mothers. Nurses can also be available for on-going parent education and support, including infant growth and development, sleep and feeding issues, and general infant care.
Pediatric nursing care
Certified pediatric nurses provide specialized pediatric nursing care to premature infants, as well as full-term infants and children who have medical/surgical conditions that may range from diabetes, application of casts for orthopedic problems, and cardiac conditions to congenital anomalies, developmental delay, failure to thrive, or other health problems. This nursing care can be short-term or on-going, and can be in collaboration with other agency staff, such as rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and dieticians. Nurses assist with medication management, naso-gastric tube feedings, post-surgical dressings, and cast care, among other tasks. The care combines educating parents with providing hands-on nursing care.
